Manage Startup Programs in Vista to save boot time

by on Aug.11, 2009, under Windows Vista

Controlling what programs start up with Vista is easy, and it can save a ton of boot time. Go to Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools > Manage Startup Programs. Windows Defender will list the start up applications on the left, and detailed descriptions on the right. Be careful what you remove, if don’t recognize an application name run a Google search to find out if it’s spam, spyware, or genuinely necessary. On my system I removed quicktime, realplayer, and a couple other programs from start up. It certainly made computer start up feel snappier. By the way, those programs will still work, they’re just stopped from pre-loading.
