Network Stealthiness in Windows OS

by on Aug.13, 2009, under Windows OS Tricks & Tips

Putting a computer on the network is easy, but what happens if you don’t want other LAN users to access it? Sure password protecting is the tried and true way, but what about hiding the computer completely, so others don’t even know it exists?

To hide a computer from the network browser list, first load up a command prompt (Start -> Run then type CMD and press Enter). From there type “net config server /hidden:yes” and then press the enter key. After that’s done the PC you’re working on should disappear from the network browser list (it can take up to 30 minutes). If you want the computer to show up again, simply replace the “yes” with “no“.

Superb blog post, I have book marked this internet site so ideally I’ll see much more on this subject in the foreseeable future!
